Material Estimator

The Material Estimator is responsible for the accurate, timely and detailed material cost estimates on large, complex projects. The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge of construction means and methods, project schedule preparation, costs and construction principles. They should be a self-starter and work efficiently with minimal oversight, must be able to meet critical deadlines and have the ability to lead and work as part of a greater team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.

Full knowledge of material estimating methods

Download and convert bid documents

Identify labor, material, and time requirements by studying vendor proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.

Compute costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.

Resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.

Present prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.

Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

Maintain cost database by entering and backing up data.

Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications.

Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Required Skills & Experience

High school diploma or GED

5 years of relevant material estimating experience

Ability to prepare conceptual budgets based on minimal information and specifications

Ability to professionally communicate project needs to assigned staff in a fast-paced environment

Proven ability to multi-task in a high volume, fast-paced work environment

Self-driven, reliable and able to work independently

Curious with a desire to learn and grow

Positive and professional attitude, and strong customer relations skills

Strong team work and collaboration with peers and leaders

Ability to work in a team environment and initiative to execute on self-guided, special initiative projects.
