Elam Construction has an immediate opening for a Construction Superintendent in Craig, Colorado.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise operations to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule
Plan, coordinate, and manage resources to ensure project objectives are met
Supervise and direct field employees and other contractors to ensure productivity, efficient use of materials and equipment, contractual performance, ascertain their needs, problems and job progress.
Contact subcontractors, suppliers, and specialty service companies for RFPs
Prepare cost estimates and bid documents for construction projects or services that are used by management in preparation of the bidding process.
Improve the knowledge, skills and capabilities of paving crews
Comply with, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment
Ensure that quality control is developed and maintained
Ensure all jobs are previewed and correctly laid out before crews arrival on site
Schedule projects, manpower and equipment.
Schedule equipment movement and transport schedules.
Make sure that foreman have the time cards for their crew turned in on a timely basis and that coding if correct, and the foreman has signed card
Check daily cost sheets for correctness, submission with estimated cost, and if over budget, find out why and report to management.
Prior to job startup, review with the job foreman the project plans, specifications and review the project startup list to insure that each item is done, i.e. 811 Call Before You Dig has been contracted.
Assist Estimating by providing feedback on job progress verse estimated and by performing field measurements.
Assist with accounting to ensure contract documents, billing and expenditures are properly managed.
Check that foreman’s job quantities are correct and submitted to Estimating; remember they will generate the invoice based on what is reported
Maintain adequate oil supplies and fuels to meet the projects needs. Review job reports.
Establish and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external customers Supervisory Responsibilities
Will supervise foreman and other related employees.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
10 years in construction management and paving supervision experience or a similar role with heavy emphasis on asphalt paving.
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of paving (technology, equipment, methods, procedures and standards).
Excellent communication, organizational, supervisory and planning skills required.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Proficiency in English, Spanish as a second language is desirable
Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, percent, areas and volumes.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
Computer estimating software.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Standard Driver’s License is required.
Traffic control certificate is preferred.
3-5 years Superintendent Experience Preferred
