Senior Estimator and Sage Trainer
Brown and Caldwell is seeking a well-organized, outgoing individual to fill a Senior Estimator position. This position could be based out of our Denver, Atlanta, Portland, Walnut Creek or Cincinnati office. The candidate will professionally represent the company by interfacing with customers in the field as well as from the office. This position requires well developed experience inclusive of all disciplines including but not limited to civil, structural pipeline, mechanical and electrical, with an emphasis in Water/Waste Water. In addition to regular Estimating responsibilities, the successful candidate will be well versed in Sage Construction and Real Estate 300 software, have the ability to construct smart assemblies, maintain cost database and provide training to other Estimators.
Estimating man hours and materials needed to competitively bid both traditional and design-build projects
Develop scopes of work associated with subcontracts and process equipment
Provide constructability and value engineering reviews of design documents during all phases of the project
Develop and lead project estimates, with integrated support of other estimates resources
Demonstrated exposure to all aspects of the project delivery process
Interfacing with vendors and subcontractors
Develop and maintain customer relationships throughout the project
Change order negotiation as needed
Maintain proprietary database and perform SQL server database updates
Construct and edit smart assemblies within SAGE
Provide guidance and training to Estimating team
Desired Skills and Experience:
Associates degree or technical school certificate (BSEE or BSET preferred)
10 years' minimum estimating experience inclusive of a broad set of disciplines including Civil, Mechanical, Structural, Architectural and some Electrical estimating, with an emphasis on Water/Wastewater.
Experience in developing complete project scopes of work and associated competitive pricing utilizing proposal phase engineering document and functional scopes of supply in development of a complete cost model
Proven ability to work independently under remote supervision with project managers, project design teams and other estimators located in multiple regions of the country
Extensive knowledge of water and wastewater plant and process engineering practice, conventions and associated sequences of construction
Skilled in Sage Construction and Real Estate 300 estimating software (formerly Timberline Estimating Software) and Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Familiarity with RS Means databases.
Ability to update SQL server database with updated costs/quotes and maintain proprietary database.
Demonstrated experience with constructing and editing smart assemblies within Sage to be used by all company estimators utilizing using RS Means database
Working knowledge of E-Takeoff or other automated take off software.
In-depth knowledge of Sage CRE 300 software and ability to train other estimators.
Experience working with output from BIM models and putting into correct format for integration with estimating software.
Working knowledge of Primavera P6 Scheduling Software and ability to develop proposal and planning phase construction schedules is highly desirable
Currently hold or eligible to obtain AACE certification as a Certified Estimating Professional, Certified Cost Engineer (CCE), Certified Cost Consultant (CCC), or ASPE certification as a Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) within one year
Previous construction management background highly preferred, must understand construction sequencing and ability to detail work break down structures (WBS), previous construction scheduling experience.
Understanding of different project delivery methods and estimating based on delivery method
Ability to perform constructability reviews
Ability to coordinate the objectives of all stakeholders towards a positive outcome
Hands-on computer skills (CAD experience a plus)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
Excellent organization, prioritization and time management skills
Ability to multi-task and excel in a fast-paced environment
